Blogs

A blog is a website where entries are made journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of most early blogs.

WordPress is a state-of-the-art blog publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.

A very large portion of all blogging sites use WordPress as their blogging engine. While excellent as a stand-alone tool, WordPress is built much like Apache – as a modular engine which can be added to, deleted from, and re-designed with a minimum of effort. Entarsia uses the WordPress engine but allows individual Blog owners to customize the look and feel of their sites using WordPress' impressive “Theme” system. Owners can even design their own themes.

Wikis

A Wiki is a website that includes the collaboration of work from many different authors. A wiki site allows anyone to edit, delete, or modify the content on the web. (The first wiki creator named the site after a chain of buses in Hawaii; Wiki means "quick" in Hawaiian.)

MediaWiki is a free software wiki package originally written for Wikipedia, the online, user-edited encyclopedia. It is now used by several other projects of the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation and by many other wikis.

By using such a standardized Wiki engine as MediaWiki, Entarsia's clients gain the stability and dependability which can only come from having such a large user base. Other wiki engines may be considered on a case by case basis if client clients can make a solid case for a need for a different engine.
